Choosing the Right EV for You

BEVs, HEVs, & PHEVs

What’s the difference between HEV, PHEV and BEV? What about winter performance? Discover the answers to these questions and more, including range capability, finding public charging stations on-the-go, and at-home charging solutions.

Battery Electric

Battery electric vehicles (BEV) are powered completely by a rechargeable battery, so you’ll never need a drop of gas or an oil change. All you have to do is plug in, recharge, and go.

Hybrid Electric

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) use a battery and gas engine to optimize fuel efficiency and performance. They don’t need to be plugged in because regenerative braking and the gas engine recharge the battery pack.

Plug-In Hybrid Electric

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) are also powered by both battery and gas, using the battery first and switching to the gas engine once the battery is depleted, giving you the best of both worlds.

EV SAVINGS

Choosing to go electric represents a commendable effort to reduce one’s carbon footprint, and the benefits of zero-emissions vehicles extend far beyond environmental impact. One of the most compelling advantages is the long-term cost-effectiveness of electric vehicles (EVs) compared to traditional gas-powered vehicles. By eliminating trips to the gas station, EVs save money on fuel costs

FORD HYBRID & ELECTRIC VEHICLE FAQS

Which Ford models are hybrids?

A Ford hybrid serves as an ideal middle ground between a conventional gasoline engine and a battery-powered electric vehicle (EV). Whether you’re in the market for a pickup, consider purchasing or leasing the latest F-150 Hybrid truck. These trucks provide a convenient solution for bypassing frequent fuel stops during your journeys. If you prefer a roomy SUV, explore the new Explorer Hybrid, offering ample space for your entire family. Additionally, you can assess the Ford Escape Hybrid and Escape Plug-In Hybrid models to determine which one aligns best with your preferences.

What are the Ford EV models?

Exploring the latest Ford electric vehicle (EV) offerings reveals three distinct choices: the innovative Ford F-150 Lightning truck, the stylish Mustang Mach-E SUV, and the efficient E-Transit van. The F-150 Lightning proves to be a valuable asset on any jobsite, enabling you to tackle challenging projects with a reduced carbon footprint. For those drawn to the iconic style and power of a Ford Mustang, the Mustang Mach-E comes with numerous appealing features. Meanwhile, the all-electric E-Transit van caters to business owners seeking to elevate their fleet with a sustainable and efficient option.

What’s the difference between hybrids and EVs?

In essence, an electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle exclusively propelled by an electric motor, devoid of any internal combustion engine. Conversely, a hybrid vehicle integrates both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, seamlessly transitioning between the two during operation. Opting for a plug-in hybrid presents a compromise between these two, enabling you to charge the battery by plugging in and operate in electric mode before the vehicle seamlessly shifts to gasoline power.

Do EV cars cost more to maintain?

Absolutely not. In reality, maintaining electric vehicles is more economical in the long term compared to gas-powered vehicles. The absence of an engine and the streamlined design with fewer components result in fewer potential points of failure or wear over time. Additionally, the reduced number of parts translates to lower maintenance costs, as there are fewer components requiring replacement, and fewer fluids that need regular replenishment.

What are the different Ford EV ranges?

Ford offers three all-electric models, each providing various range options depending on whether you opt for the standard or extended-range battery. These models include:

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E
    • Standard Range Battery: EPA-estimated range of up to 402 km.
    • Available Extended Range Battery: EPA-estimated range of up to 502 km
  • Ford F-150 Lightning
    • Standard Range Battery: EPA-estimated range of up to 386 km
    • Available Extended Range Battery: EPA-estimated range of up to 515 km
  • Ford E-Transit
    • Standard Range Battery: EPA-estimated range of up to 203 km

How do I charge my Ford EV?

Every Ford electric vehicle (EV) includes home charging solutions, and they are also compatible with various electric charging stations nationwide. The Mustang Mach-E comes equipped with the Ford Mobile Power Cord for convenient at-home charging, and for faster charging, the optional Ford Connected Charge Station is available.

Similarly, the F-150 Lightning is standardly equipped with the Ford Mobile Power Cord for at-home charging. For extended-range battery F-150 Lightning models, the standard Ford Charge Station Pro is included, and it is also available as an option for other F-150 Lightning models.

Do I have to buy my Mustang Mach-E at a Ford Dealer?

Yes, your Ford Dealer who is certified to sell all-electric vehicles is best equipped to help you with your sales and service needs. You can select the “Interested In Ordering Yours” button on Ford.ca to start the ordering process. You will then be sent to the Mach-E Build & Price page where you can configure your vehicle. Lastly, you can select “Request Dealer Quote” to have your Build & Price configuration summary page sent to a Ford EV-certified dealer. Or, you can go in person to a Ford EV-certified dealer to reserve your Mustang Mach-E.

Can I buy a Mustang Mach-E at any Ford Dealer?

You can only purchase a Mustang Mach-E from a Ford EV-certified dealer.

What is the warranty on the Mustang Mach-E?

Our battery vehicle warranty will give you peace of mind:

  • Basic: 3 years / 60,000 km
  • Powertrain: 5 years / 100,000 km (non-high-voltage components)
  • Safety Restraint System: 5 years / 100,000 km
  • Corrosion (Perforation only): 5 years / unlimited km
  • Roadside Assistance Program: 5 years / 100,000 km
  • Electric Unique Components: Your battery is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, retaining a minimum of 70% of its original capacity over that period.

What happens at the vehicle’s end of life? Can the batteries be recycled?

The batteries are recyclable. Ford will handle in-warranty battery returns and will provide recycling options for out-of-warranty batteries. Ford is also working with other OEMs for secondary-market opportunities.

What type of battery does the Mustang Mach-E have?

The Mustang Mach-E comes equipped with 68 kWh or 88 kWh of usable battery that has state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery cells with nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) cathode, typical for automotive batteries. The pack is located underneath the vehicle. The high-voltage battery system uses an advanced active liquid heating and cooling system to regulate high-voltage battery temperature and help maximize the performance of the high-voltage battery.

Note: The high-voltage battery does not require regular service maintenance.

Where can I charge my car?

Most charging is done at home. You will be able to finance the Ford Connected Charge Station at time of vehicle purchase. Ford will also be giving owners access to the largest charging network in North America with over 40,000 plugs, all accessible with the FordPass™ App. These will include Level 2 and DC fast-charge stations. Click here to learn more about charging.

Will I need to download the FordPassTM App when I purchase Mustang Mach-E

Yes. The FordPass App will be a vital tool for owners of Mustang Mach-E. The FordPass App will allow owners to monitor the vehicle’s charge status, precondition the vehicle, use Phone As A Key, locate chargers, etc.
